Free Fandom stamp by MarioLuigi25 Free Fandom stamp by MarioLuigi25
I see alot of people complaining about people how show their love for their character or fandom. The last time I checked, wasn't fandom suppose to be fun and enjoyable? Something to do your your amusement and entertainment? So what if they like pairing their character with multiple other characters, doing tons of crossovers, or doing something else with them that you might not agree with. They're just fictional characters anyway, it's not like they're real people. Let people fan however they want. They have their way of fanning and you have yours.

Let's please be respectful of other people and their fandom.

Thank you. What's the point of fanfiction if everything was canon. I especially ship non-canon pairs. So what if they say, "It wouldn't work in canon." It works in my story.

As long as they don't actually hurt anyone, freedom to create.

Dude, porn had been on the internet way before this stamp was even thought of.

I know, but still! Twerking videos! I cannot get those cancerous montages out of my head!
Timon-o-rama Featured By Owner Edited Oct 16, 2016
Well, if the character is imaginary, then a person's imagination can definitely change them into any way they want him/her to be or look. That's reality. But I'll still always see my cartoon or favorite animated characters as people though.

Of course, this is exactly why one should always be on guard when entering a fandom; some people have seriously twisted imaginations. [shutters] What has been seen can not be unseen.

Except for the rules explicitly mentioned in the fandom, and the rules of logic, and the rules of cause/action...

Fun an enjoyable doesn't mean you can tear apart everything in the fandom as you please. The characters may not be real, but the people who worked hard to create the world are. The less you can do is respect their work.

You can do all the couples and shipps you want, but at least create a good story for that to happen, and to do that, you have to respect AT LEAST the rules of the fandom.

Sadly most people will agree with the stamp because it is easier to think that way, and it allows people to create lazy and bad works, since "there are no rules".
MarioLuigi25 Featured By Owner Aug 15, 2014
The only rules I see are the ones that people force themselves to go by because "it ruins the fandom". Look around the internet, if that''s really the case, then the fandom is already ruined.

How is coming up with your own ideas disrespecting the author? Just because you don't agree with their stuff doesn't mean you're disrespecting them. Stopping and asking yourself "what if this character met this character" or "what if this happened" is part of coming up with your own ideas. Most of this stuff is just for fun anyway and isn't meant to be taken seriously. We already know that Mario will never date anyone, let alone somebody from outside his series, but that's where fandom comes in. To make your own dreams and ideas in your head a reality.

Maybe they are bad, but as I mentioned before, the main point of fandom is to have fun with it, not create a blockbuster story that everyone is going to want to read. They're not trying to get known or famous. They want to express themselves in the best way they know how to do it. Not how others expect them to express themselves. They care about having fun. If people like it great, if not, then oh well.
ArkaDark Featured By Owner Aug 15, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yeah, I think most fandoms are ruined by a big majority of fanfic authors who only do use the word "fanfic" to shipp and write their own wet dreams and show them to the people. Don't get me wrong, there will always be well written and really emotional and passionate fanfics out there, but those authors would never agree with this statement.

We should try our best to contribute with good content to the fandoms we are part of instead of saying "Everyone do whatever they want and write awful dumb things, I guess that's what is right to do and I shall do it too". No matter what it is, a shipping story, an epic story, action, horror, etc. you should always try your best to make it credible and even driving some to think that could really happen in the canon under the right circumstances.

And that's one of the strongest problems with most fandoms, like I've said in my comment, it is easier to say "Duh, it is for fun, and we can do whatever we want because it is just for fun" than really thinking about a good reason why that character went into that situations. Any kind of story need bases, like I've said, you have to follow credible cause/action situations; build a set up to your story if you really want to be in the universe you love so much. At least give a proper explanation of why your OCs are there or what drove the characters to those situations.

I don't say that unless you're an expert writer you can't do your fanfic, but why you should write something if you're not going to try your best if that is the only way to improve? Why would anyone want to be mediocre and halt any kind of progress they would be able to do in their skills? Well, like I've said before, because it is easier to do it that way. And then the author will erase any kind of constructive comment that point out its flaws and were it could improve and call it "trolling/hating".

And that's what I'm doing here, giving a constructive point of view. Your statement is wrong, and is the sum of all the reasons why a lot of amateur writers will never do a single good work.
MarioLuigi25 Featured By Owner Aug 16, 2014
Well, that's your opinion. If you feel that way more power to you. While I do agree that people shouldn't just put together a random story with you basis or logic whatsoever, I don't think that they should stop writing about whatever they want because "It's not what the author would want". I think you misunderstood the message of the stamp. I'm saying that people should be allowed to write about whatever they want, no matter how silly it may seem and not force themselves to go by canon all the time. Now yes, you're right. No one should just put together a story with no basis or explanation as to why it happened, but anything is possible in fandom and it is quite possible to write good stories with your fandom and dreams of what you would like to happen.

There are some that will write terrible stories and fanfics, but honestly people like that are ALWAYS going to exist. And I don't see how my stamp is used as an excuse for people to write lazy and bad fanfics when they were pretty much already doing it to begin with.
ArkaDark Featured By Owner Aug 16, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Again, please tell me where I said that people should stop writing, for any reason. I'm against works that are mediocre intentionally, and again, your statement allows everyone to do dumb and random stuff, without any kind of concern about quality. If there are no rules, there is no basis, there is no logic, there is no effort. Only random situations put together.

I understood what you wanted to mean, but you expressed it wrong. And most people didn't get the message that you wanted to give, but instead all understood that no one should criticize their work. Just look at the comments below, most agree because they don't want their work criticized or just want to create a concept that was never in the cannon universe and there wouldn't be any explanation or logical basis for it to exist.

And I have to repeat myself, you can't say "there are no rules". There are the rules that the universe of your fandom established, there are the rules of logic and most importantly, of writing. If someone is doing something wrong, and you say something that support their wrong ideas, then you are giving (indirectly) an example and your support. Of course there will always be terrible fanfics, but that's because like most people from the comments bellow me, don't like their work to be questioned and criticized even if it is for a good reason.

Can I ask? Is it disrespectful to ship two enemies as lovers who want to have a family together?

Agreed! what pisses me off is: in some fandoms, you can't be more powerful than Normal Person
